Problems With Society Essays - Dispute Resolution, Crime, Ethics
Problems With Society Essays - Dispute Resolution, Crime, Ethics Problems With Society There are many problems right now in the society. Some of these problems can be easily solved, or can be impossible to solve depending how bad it is. Many people think these problems should be solved by the governments, since they are in charge. But we can also solve these problems if we get together. Not all the problems, but some that can be solved. I think the three major problems in the society today are: unemployment, violence, and pollution. The first problem in the society right now is unemployment. Many people today are either unemployed or underemployed. Some of these people just stay home and collect their welfare cheque every month, when they should go out and at least try to get a job. If there are more people like this, the country would be poor and therefore the government would have to collect more taxes. Also the standard of living would decrease because of their income that is way below the average income. Right now, there is also a big gap between the low-income people and the high income people and this is becoming a problem. Low-income people are starting to get lower wages and higher income people are starting to get higher wages. Another problem in the society is violence. Today, there are many violence in the streets, some schools, and also in the media. These violence in the streets can cause the neighborhood to become a bad place to live. This will cause people not to go there or move in there because of these violence. There are also many violence and gangs in some school, causing some of the school to be very unsafe to go. With these violence and gangs, students will probably be afraid of these people. In addition, the media can contain violence too. These violence, can cause kids to do what ever is on TV. For example, my little brother likes to watch wrestling and he sometimes does wrestling moves on me for no reason and thinking it's fun. Even though it doesn't hurt me because I'm bigger than him, he might hurt someone smaller in school or something. The third problem in the society today is pollution. Many things these days cause pollution such as cars, air conditioners, refrigerators, factories, CFC cans, etc.. All these things together can cause a pollution problem in the society today. The CFC cans used to be a serious problem to the ozone layer, but luckily it was taken off the market. Refrigerators and air conditioners are also a problem to the zone because of the liquid called freon. These machines use this liquid that makes it cold, but when these liquids are released from damaging the machine, it releases a gas that breaks down the zone layers. In addition, cars also can cause a lot of pollution because of the carbon monoxide it produces. This would cause the air to be bad, cause global warming, which would cause the earth to have longer summers or vice versa, longer winters, and would also cause acid rain. In conclusion, unemployment, violence, and pollution would consider to be the three major problems in the society today. People and the government should get together and try to solve these problems in order to make this planet a safe and good place to live. If these problems are not solved, there might not even be an Earth in the future to live on.

Against Cloning Essay
Against Cloning Essay During my interview with my grandmother I asked her what she thought of cloning. she responded by saying that it was not right and should be stopped. on theother hand i have a different opinion. I think that cloning should be continuedand furhter researched for we might be able to have different organs andsubstances produced in these clones. Below is the step that were taken to clonethe adult sheep named Dolly. Part 1: An Improbable Goal Scientists hoped thatcloning healthy, mature sheep, rather than just creating lambs from embryoniccells, could produce a highly specialized sheep with large quantities ofproteins in its milk. The proteins are believed to help treat diseases such asemphysema, hemophylia and cystic fibrosis. Part 2: The Perfect Timing For years, scientists could not synchronize the growth of the egg and the cell. If one wasoff- synch, abnormal chromosomes would soon transform in the nucleus and therebykill off the embryo. Dr. Wilmut achieved near perfection in the timing byputting the cells into hybernation; of the 277 eggs they began with, 247 live dthrough the process. Timing the growth in other species, however, has proved toscientists that cloning mature animals is extremely difficult; in the case ofmice, theyve concluded it cant be accomplished. Part 3: Jump-start from a JoltThough it has become a standard procedure in cloning, scientists are not surewhy an electric pulse sent to the two cells causes them to meld together andactivates development in the egg. They are learning, however, the shock doesntfully mimic the activation process of a sperm, which could explain why just 29of the remaining 247 cells live longer than six days. Part 4: SurrogateMotherhood Despite the fact that the newly formed embryo is transplanted intothe uterus of another ewe, scientists believe Dolly is a nearly exactcarbon-copy of her genetic originating mother. In theory, that means an almostexact look-alike of John F. Kennedy Jr. could be produced by taking cells fromhis skin, melding their nuclei with any womans egg that has had its nucleusremov ed and then planting the embryo in a surrogate mother. Part 5: A 6-Year-Oldin 7 Months? Scientists are eagerly watching Dolly to see if she exhibits thecharacteristics of her mother, a 6-year-old sheep, or those of her own age, just7 months. As animals and humans age, changes occur in their DNA such asdecreasing fertility and increasing susceptibility to cancer and other diseases. If she prematurely ages, clones of mature animals would be useless to theagriculture industry. Science

Critically evaluate the extent to which budget hotel brandsrequire Essay
Critically evaluate the extent to which budget hotel brandsrequire effective brand management in the current post recession envi - Essay Example It was during this period that a sandal maker based in Syria mentioned his name on the footwear he was selling so as to keep it distinct from others. During initial years branding was often viewed as naming a good or an article. This follows from the different religious views which stress on naming individuals so as to distinguish them from the rest of the others. The aspect of naming goods has over the years modified itself to what is termed as ââ¬Ëbrandingââ¬â¢ in todayââ¬â¢s globalised market environment (Jackson & Fulberg, p.51). According to Keller a brand is defined as ââ¬Å"a set of mental associations held by the consumer, which ad to the perceived value of a product or serviceâ⬠(Kapferer, p.10). The importance of brands could be analysed from the fact that well known brands like Coca Cola, Kelloggââ¬â¢s and Apple are being valued in billions just because of the power of their names (or brands). The present study would focus on the importance of branding an d brand image in case of budget hotels especially in the light of the recent financial meltdown and the competitive forces prevalent in the market. Importance of Brand Management The present age of business is being widely debated as the age of consumerism. In this age customers are in the driverââ¬â¢s seat as firms are trying to aggressively woo customers by offering them greater value for every purchase. The competitive environment in the consumer markets has forced organizations to distinguish their product and service offering from the rest of its competitors (Budzinski, p.13). Branding has therefore assumed considerable importance for business organizations as it is being largely used by the customers to distinguish the product and service offering among the wide array of choices available in the market. The importance of branding could be analysed from the fact that branding plays a key role in the positioning of a firmââ¬â¢s product or service in the minds of the consum er. This is important considering the fact that positioning plays a key role in the consumerââ¬â¢s buying behaviour process. Branding assumes significant importance as it distinguishes the product or service offering of different organizations and also gives uniqueness to a particular product or service in the consumer markets. In the present age it has often been argued that consumers are more intended towards purchasing a brand instead of a product. Branding also has a role in the aspect of marketing communication as they are essentially used by firms to promote their product in the market. For example Cadbury uses its famous tagline ââ¬Å"I love Cadburyâ⬠to make a connection with its target market audience (Elliot & Percy, p.229-230). Brand equity is a broad term and includes four critical aspects namely awareness of a brand, loyalty towards a brand, quality and image. The combined effect of these four aspects plays a critical role in determining the profitability and s ustainability of a brand in the market. For example the success story of the fast service chain of restaurants could be traced to the effectiveness by which the marketer has handled these four underlying aspects of brand equity to build a formidable brand image (Oh & Pizam, p.103-104). Global Recession and Budget Hotels The global recession had large scale impacts on the business prospects of budget hotels. The financial meltdown resulted in rise of unemployment coupled with decrease in the income levels of the individuals. It

The Organization as a System Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Organization as a System - Assignment Example Eliminating the 20% of the individual problems still leaves the system thereby calling for change in system aspects like policies, equipment, and materials. 9. In order to achieve the required change, organizational management must work towards identifying the constraints within the system, including past practices, guidelines, unspoken taboos, guidelines, and personal experiences that shaped their decisions. 10. The three levels of the fixes are: level one: prompt output fixing by correcting all associated problems; level two: process fixing by rectifying the process responsible for the problem; and level three: system fixing involving changing the system to eliminate any flaws that led to the faults. The digestive system in humans and animals is designed uniquely such that it turns food into energy required by the body to live on. The output of the digestive system is solid waste that is stored in the rectum waiting for excretion. The digestive system involves organs like the mouth, throat, Esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and liver (Starr, Evers, & Starr, 2010). The input to the digestive system is food. Food digestion occurs in the mouth, where it is mixed with saliva, then through the pharynx into the esophagus tube that delivers the food into the stomach. From the stomach, food pieces are mixed with powerful enzymes and acid that continually breaks it down turning it to paste. Using enzymes from the liver and the pancreas, food paste from the stomach is further broken down in the duodenum while jejunum and ileum begin nutrients absorption into the blood vessels for circulation in the body. The output, which is solid waste, is stored in the goes to the large intestine or

Our Practitioner Article :: Essays Papers
Our Practitioner Article There is always some bandwagon that education seems to jump onto. Unfortunately, sometimes when the majority is in support of the same system, there is a loss of objectivity. They are unable to see both the good and the bad because they are anxious to have developed the "perfect" system. You donââ¬â¢t have to be an educator, but simply a citizen who reads the newspaper or watches the news, to realize that the newest bandwagon is high-stakes testing. In fact those who are parents or have some involvement in a childââ¬â¢s life are most likely seeing the change occurring in the school they are involved with. Some people may argue that testing has always been done. So what is different now? The difference is that now testing (in the form of "high-stakes" testing) is leaving dangerous aftereffects. The end result that may come leaves one even more wary. So, what exactly is high-stakes testing? Is there an exact definition? Personally we believe that one may describe what high-stakes testing is. But, it is more important and more effective to emphasize the unfair strategies high-stakes testing utilizes as well as the disturbing effects it is causing. High-stakes testing is an assessment of students, which carries serious consequences for students or educators. If the student passes, they proceed. If they do not pass, they must repeat the level they are currently at. Why do some people think high-stakes testing is the answer? What are the effects of high-stakes testing? Are there alternatives to high-stakes testing? Fortunately, these are some of the questions we have addressed in this article. High-stakes testing has been implemented in order to "raise the bar for all students and add accountability for academic performance" (Tennessee Department of Education). Many states implement the tests so that they can gather information about student achievement over time. Policy makers have good intentions in that they believe that these tests will improve education. The major goal and hope is that setting high standards of achievement will inspire greater effort on the part of students, teachers, and educational administrators (AERA position statement). As stated previously, many policy makers have good intentions when they implement high-stakes testing. We are not pointing fingers at who is bad and who is good. We are simply pointing out the fact that perhaps the policy makers and society as a whole need to reevaluate what we want from our education system.

Discovering Truth in Personal Experience
There are a few chosen moments in a personââ¬â¢s life that are pivotal and life-changing. I have been fortunate to have one of those moments in my life and I think that it has shaped my personality and character today. As I look back to that experience, I am amused by the fact that it took me some years to realize how influential my high school biology teacher was in shaping my values towards education, hard work, and responsibility. I was only a teenager when I met her and naturally, I did not care the least about how she was teaching us or what impact she was making on our volatile and malleable minds. But years after I left high school and have now encountered various situations that challenged my character and personality, I see how her methods of teaching equipped me to face these situations. When she was teaching us high school biology during the second year of high school, she already had two children. It was not surprising that I and my peers always felt that she treated us very motherly, concerned not only with our academic performance but also with our character formation. She taught us beyond the classroom and was always accessible even outside the school premises. She was very interactive and made sure that we have healthy communication. Once, I and a few my classmates were having difficulty with a laboratory experimentation which she made us do. Without hesitation, she invited us over her house and helped us accomplish the experiment by guiding us through the instructions. She was accommodating and open to questions and even complaints. There was a healthy exchange in our communication and during that year with her, I experienced how guidance could aid student in charting their progress. Because of the nature of her class, she was able to instill to us the value of cooperation and interaction within the group. She maximized our laboratory sessions to instruct us how a team functions. The class was not her monopoly. She delegated as much responsibil ity to us and put confidence in our skills and capacity to work together. Our laboratory sessions became more than tedious, repetitive and routine class requirements.Aside from including bits of fun in it, she also made sure that we work effectively in groups. She constantly monitored how we go through experiments, roaming around the laboratory and observing one group after another. She insisted on involving every member of the group and I remember that she specifically designed her experiments to ensure that everybody in the group participates. Nobody was left behind in her class. It is very important that a class progress as whole and not only individuals or certain groups within the class. The sign of an effective teacher is that he or she sufficiently meets the needs of every student in the class. I realize now how huge her responsibilities were trying to assess how each of her students learn and teach in a way that enables her to match these various learning styles. It was durin g the second year of my high school when I learned to depend on my skills. This was primarily made possible by my biology teacher who always encouraged us to learn actively, using our own strengths and capabilities. She rarely monopolized the class by spoon feeding information to us. Instead, she allowed us to discover the answers for ourselves. During our class discussion on taxonomy, she had each of us report on the basic classification of animal and plant kingdom giving us only the bare details. She suggested a few places where we can gather information, but she did not assign a book or a particular material. She said that we can stretch our creativity in our reports as long we educate the class on our assigned topic. As her way of guiding us through the task, she opened her office for consultation. I realized that she was adapting methods used in college by allowing us to be independent students. Through her efforts of making our learning active, I learned to form study habits on my own and depend on my own skills and capabilities in accomplishing goals. In terms of reaching goals, my biology teacher also influenced my sense of time. When working on certain tasks inside the class, she reminded us that we were bound by time and cannot afford to lax or procrastinate. She was strict on deadlines and imposed sanctions on those who disregard the schedule she set. Time management is a crucial part of effective education and she made sure that we internalize that importance during that year. It was just recently that I encountered Stephen Coveyââ¬â¢s The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People in which he gives certain guidelines on effective time management. As I look back, I realize that my high school teacher was already teaching us some of the basic principles which Covey outlines in his book. One important information which my teacher imparted on us was prioritization which Covey emphasizes in the section ââ¬ËPut First Things Firstââ¬â¢ (1989). My biolo gy teacher taught us to make important, but not ââ¬Ëurgentââ¬â¢ [in Coveyââ¬â¢s words], matters a top priority in our lives. By this, she meant that we should be balanced individuals devoting our time not only to her subject but also to our families and friends. It was important for her that we balance our activities because she told us that education was not merely based on the book.Education goes beyond the confines of the class and the textbook. Information is useless if it does not fit appropriately in an individualââ¬â¢s life. Thus, she taught us not only to value time but also to assess how our high school education figures in the rest of our life plans. By showing me and my classmates an overview of life, not only in the literal sense knowing that she taught biology, I was able to endure the tedious parts of high school and utilize my learning to be a more effective student in my succeeding education.I only spent a year with my biology teacher and most of informat ional things she taught us regarding the science of life I have already forgotten. But, she remains to be of central significance in my life education because what she imparted to me were skills essential not only to pass an examination but to survive life in general. Her methods and her nurturing character helped me discover my own strength, the value of cooperation and the high regard for the limits of time. Reference: Covey, S. (1989).
